Sunday Post #184 (8/7/16) – Slacking Off & Sucky NBC

sunday post blue green

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I did a little bit of slacking off this week after the craziness of the previous one, even though I probably shouldn’t have. Oh well. I tried to visit blogs and schedule some more posts, but didn’t get to do very much of either one of those. I’ve cut way back on blogging over the years, but it still seems like too much sometimes. I just can’t let go yet, though.

I had another slow reading week, too. Only read one, but it was a good one! I’m back to being two books behind on my Goodreads goal. I know it’s not something to worry about or take seriously, but I like reaching or surpassing any goal I make. I’m competitive.

Speaking of Goodreads, how do you like the new layout? Blah! I hate having the widgets on the left side.

Lauren @ Shooting Stars Mag has kicked off her Leave a Mark Auction. The first book up for bidding is an autographed copy of The Martin by Andy Weir. All proceeds go to charity. Find info and bid Here.

I can’t remember who mentioned Stranger Things in their post last week, but I’m sure glad they did! It’s a Netflix original and it is really good! So I’m excited to read this news:

The show’s creators have not revealed whether they have written a second season, but have hinted that they plan an even darker follow-up to the eight-parter … “

I love the Olympics. I remember going through the TV Guide when I was a little girl to get the schedule for the equestrian events, and then sometimes getting up at 3am to watch because of the time difference. Equestrian and track are top of my list now, and then swimming and gymnastics. I still enjoy watching any event that’s on though.

Oh, but don’t get me started on NBC and their shitty coverage. Looks like the ratings for opening ceremony were a major low. Good! You’d think they would’ve learned from all the criticism last time, but nope. Gotta make their money. And their cop out about women viewers … kiss my ass.

I’ve pretty much had Carrie’s music on repeat all week.

Have a great week!

  1. I haven’t been on Goodreads since the change, although I saw reactions on Twitter. Thanx for reminding me, I need to go check it out. And Stranger Things- yes!! Loved it.

I HATE NBC’s coverage, it’s so bad. I’ve been bitching about it on Twitter… and you’re right, that comment about women. I just shook my head. Would love to be able to get the BBC coverage.

  2. I find overwhelmed sometimes with blogging and all it entails, even after cutting back too. It can be easy to feel like I fall behind and then hard to catch up. We can only do what we can, I think.

I don’t mind the Goodreads changes. I don’t spend a lot of time there though, so that may be why. I like having my goal near the top instead of having to scroll down to search for it.

We’re watching the Olympics too. I am not a fan of the coverage either. Ugh. Watch for Chaunte Lowe–she’s from my town and is the goddaughter of one of my coworkers. She’s in the high jump competition. πŸ™‚

I am really enjoying Stranger Things too. I’ve seen a couple episodes so far.

I hope you have a great week, Christy!

Good luck to Chaunte! We have a couple of athletes from around here participating too. It’s exciting. And you’ll have to let us know how you liked Stranger Things when you’re finish. Love that show.

  3. I actually love the new Goodreads layout, I can now see all of my popular shelves, and the layout just works better for me navigation wise. I long for the day where I can say that I’ve acquired no books for the week and for me to just be content with the reads I still have to get to. Sadly my one-click finger has no control, doesn’t matter if the book is free or not. Enjoy your week!

It just bothers me to have those widgets on the left. I’ll adjust, though. Glad it’s working for you. πŸ™‚

    • Christy

Thanks. πŸ™‚ I don’t really stress about it. Haha – yeah, I’ll leave the gymnastics to the pros.

  4. I purposely set my GR to something I knew I’d pass so I wouldn’t stress over it lol, but it looks like I underestimated myself since I’ve already reached it, and it’s only August. Oops. I don’t love the new GR layout either. I don’t like three columns, it looks too cluttered and confusing to me.

That sucks about the Olympics coverage. I’m a little scared now how the coverage of the actual events will be! But of course, everything is all about the money -_-

Good luck catching up to that GR goal and have a great week!

I set it lower than what I expected, but I’ve been so busy this year. Life is totally ruining my reading time, man. lol. Yeah, I’m not much of a fan of the three columns either.

    Thanks, Kristen!

I was part of the beta-users for the Goodreads change, so I’ve gotten completely used to it already. I can’t even really remember what it looked like before. I do enjoy having my shelves on the homepage, though, it makes it easier for me to navigate them.
I have had a very lazy and slow online week, too. I just haven’t felt like blogging or commenting – we’ve had a lot of fun outside, and we’re going back home to Switzerland next week, so I need to soak up the last days of sea and beach before that.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading xoxo

  7. I am glad you can’t give up on blogging πŸ™‚ I was a beta-user for the new Goodreads so it is like normal to me now. I am so excited to start Stranger Things because all this week I have heard/seen such great thing! I love the Olympics and can’t wait to watch more. Gymnastics, Swimming and track and field stuff are my favorites. Have a great week!

  8. Your OCD-Balance thing is coming to forefront with the Goodreads change!! That kind of sucks… too bad you can’t move the boxes around. Now there’s a cool change!

What are the complaints on NBC’s coverage?? I need to go on Twitter and see what the deal is. I have Directv and we have a channel that mixes everything they are showing – it’s just below ESPN’s channel. Like right now, they are replaying yesterday’s women’s soccer and men’s and women’s basketball but I know from the Olympics’ schedule on ESPN there are preliminaries in Shooting and Table Tennis going on right now. Is it that we’re not getting Live feeds even from other countries? That’s annoying ME!!! Yeah, I don’t need my Olympics spoon fed to me, that’s for sure!!! Don’t tell me what I want to see!!!! Grrrrrr… Now I’m heaping mad!!!!

  9. I normally use Goodreads on my phone and the changes really aren’t on their mobile version so I was really surprised when I went to the regular website today. It’s definitely going to take some getting used to. Stranger Things just made it on my To Watch list. It looks really good! You are welcome to my undeserved smugness. Great job not getting any new books! Have a great week!

  10. Everyone’s been talking up a storm about Stranger Things! I really need to check it out one of these days. The new Goodreads layout freaked me out a little. It takes a bit to get used to for sure. A no-haul week is a great week!

    Have a great week, Christy!

  11. I didn’t get any reading done this past week. I think I am boycotting everything in life in protest of returning to school this week. I agree that blogging still seems like too much at times. I feel like I’ve cut back in terms of how much time I spend working on posts because I’ve become more efficient, but the entire kit and kaboodle still takes a lot of work.

  12. I like the Goodreads layout but then I have been using the beta for a bit now and I am used to it. πŸ™‚ I don’t know if I mentioned Stranger Things on here but I know I have mentioned it to a few people so it could have been here…lol. I am glad to hear they are going to do a follow-up. πŸ™‚

Have a great week and happy reading!

  13. I hate all the widgets being on the left too, they’ve been on the right since the beginning and it is bothering me…a lot.
The new look for Bloglovin’ is really irritating me as well. Its all mushed together now and hard to actually see which post is who’s. I hate change. πŸ™

I am watching the Olympics on CBC. I haven’t gotten as much reading done as I would like this week. I picked up a new book set. I liked your Carrie Underwood track. Have a good week.

  15. I am totally feeling like you’re feeling but probably worst, seeing how my reviews have dropped to almost nothing. Hope everything else is well, and everything picks up! πŸ™‚

  16. Bea

I swear I feel like the only person who doesn’t love Stranger Things. I watched the first few episodes and they just didn’t wow me or grab me.

I definitely don’t like goodreads new layout. The old one was flawed but this is hideous, ugly and not useful. πŸ™‚

As for blogging less, sometimes we need to take a break and sometimes blogging less often is what works as a blogging schedule. Do what works for you. πŸ™‚

    Have a good week!

  17. I really need to check out Stranger Things. That looks interesting. I love The Olympics. I am living in Italy and luckily I am able to see the events I like. My favorites are swimming and gymnastics, but I also like watching track and beach volleyball. Any event is great to watch though. I hadn’t really heard anything about the shitty NBC coverage. What are the complaints about that?

  18. So you only read one book, at least it was a great one. I haven’t read it yet, but I know it will be good because it is Ilona Andrews and they don’t write bad books. I need to set my DVR for the equestrian events. I always get disappointed because they don’t show enough of the cross country. I got to go watch them when it was in Atlanta. It was a lot of fun. I haven’t started Stranger Things, but I plan to. I do love Stephen King stories.

  19. Every time the Olympics come around we all bitch about NBCs shitty coverage. I can’t stand the late hours. I loved watching the Olympics with my mom as a kid and I can’t watch them live with or pretaped with my kids because they don’t get over until midnight. So annoying. I hate the way they drag it out. ARGH> Hate NBC.

  20. Change always takes me a while to get used to it. I’m still surprised by how it looks when I go to Goodreads. NBC hasn’t had good coverage in forever! I haven’t watched it this time. I think I’ve been so upset with the Olympic commission because they are going to places that cannot support them properly and have been having a very negative impact on the area they inhabit. πŸ™

  21. NBC is horrible. Sochi’s coverage was terrible, and Rio somehow became worse. I can’t really support the fact that Rio got the Olympic bid to begin with considering how much turmoil the FIFA World Cup put the country in a few years ago…and now it’s all repeating. That being said I’m enjoying what I do get to see, but I’ve sort of made a habit of turning the volume down a bit.
Stranger Things was great! We finished watching the season yesterday and I loved it. Definitely has all the 80’s goodness.

  22. I’ve slowed down so much too in the last few months Christy, otherwise it stops being a hobby to blog and ends up really overwhelming. I found that posting reviews on Goodreads only and just posting to my blog two or three times a week works well for me and frees me up to do other things too. I must admit, I liked Goodreads how it was, it’s still the same site but with a fancy new page. The rest of the site still looks tired n comparison. I would love to see us be able to use emojis in reviews on there, with all the updates you’d think we’d be able to by now. Ooh, are you enjoying the Olympics so far? I haven’t been able to catch any and I usually love the swimming, but it’s on so late here πŸ™

This is me exactly this year Christy! I’ve been cutting back in the hopes I can keep the blog going, but it’s getting harder and harder to keep myself motivated. The Olympics aren’t helping. All I want to do is watch:) YEAH EQUESTRIAN!!! Those events are always the top of my must-watch list as well:)

Your first paragraph is exactly how I feel, some days I feel just like I am getting nowhere with it, constantly behind but then I remember its not a job, it is supposed to be fun and if I am not posting every other day or even once a week it is not the end of the world.

    Have a great week!
