Love is the ultimate rush.
Freshman year of college isn’t easy. But with a friend like Libby Patterson, it is unforgettable.
Libby is honest and fearless and adorable. She’s the girl on campus that everyone knows. The life of every party. Infectious and addictive, Libby captivates all those around her. Particularly her roommate Honor and their boy bestie Toby.
But three isn’t always a magic number. And there’s more to this trio than what everyone sees.
When Honor finds herself falling for an artist, and Libby doesn’t approve, and Toby finds himself watching Libby more than he should…the sides of their circle become strained.
The three are suddenly stretched between friendship, love and taking sides. They must fight to hold on to each other. But the tighter the hold, the harder it gets. Especially when Libby’s unpredictability turns dangerous. Now it’s up to Honor and Toby to save her from the downward spiral that could break their circle for good.
I read Jolene Perry’s Shadows series not too long ago and loved it, so I was very excited to read 3 Sides to a Circle that she co-wrote with Janna Watts. Plus, I have been in the mood for some contemporary lately, and this was a great fit.
Call me crazy, but I so badly wanted to have the whole dorm room experience when I went to college. It sounded like so much fun to move away from home, become roommates with a complete stranger and cause all kinds of debauchery. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to have that experience. My roommates while going to college turned out to be my boyfriend and a baby. So I love reading books with characters who do get to do all that and live vicariously through them. Even all the craziness that this book entails.
3 Sides to a Circle follows three strangers turned friends during their freshman year of college, but it’s only told from point of views of Honor and Toby. Honor is a model who doesn’t quite feel comfortable with the attention she gets for her looks. She’s quiet, shy, and unassuming. Everything her new roommate isn’t. Libby is funky, outspoken, and totally fearless. Loved her. Their twosome quickly became a threesome as soon as they ran into Toby. Literally. Toby is the quite, nerdy cute guy across the hall. Poor guy didn’t know what hit him when Libby and Honor entered his life.
I liked that we didn’t get Libby’s POV, because the reader has to try and figure her out right along with Honor and Toby. All while watching the growth and self-discovery they go through. I did figure Libby out fairly early, though, but it was interesting watching it all play out. A little sad, too. Libby pushes Honor and Toby out of their comfort zones and gets them to do things they’d usually never do. It’s not all fun and games, though. Sometimes she pushes a little too far.
The romance in this book was sweet, but rocky at times. Honor meets Sawyer, an artist. He seems to actually see her for who she is, not just the exterior. But things take a wrong turn when her unconventional friendship with Libby and Toby has some not so good consequences. I understand why Sawyer had some issues with their situation, but it felt like he overreacted a little bit. And Toby doesn’t know what to do with himself half the time. The girls have him in a whirlwind. Don’t worry, though, there isn’t a love triangle.
Overall, this was a nice, quick read. I really enjoyed 3 Sides to a Circle.

Yours is the first review I have read on this one and I am really glad that you liked it. A little sad you didn’t love it but still happy you liked it and will definitely read it still.
I always wanted that college roommate experience as well and never got it either so I always love reading books about dorm life and living vicariously through them.

Glad it stays away from the love triangle and the romance is sweet.
You know I never wanted to live in a dorm, an apartment perhaps but I never got that experience either, I had to work full time and commute to school while I lived at my parents. At least I graduated debt free. I really have liked the other books I have read by Jolene so I am always ready to check out her stuff.

This one sounds like a fun read! I did the dorm experience…it was okay. It was nice getting to be out on your own for the first time, but I got a lot of other things that I hated like: roaches (which by the time I left avoided my room like the plague), fire alarms at 2am, loud/drunk neighbors, etc.
Not as much fun as I was hoping, lol. I did have an awesome roommate though.
