Kate Daniels cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to deal with-especially if they involve Atlanta's shapeshifting community.

And now there's a new player in town-a foe that may be too much for even Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family.

Hot damn! Magic Bleeds is so freaking good! Since I started this series kind of late in the game, I have several books to read before I’m caught up. Usually that would feel daunting, but I’m happy that I have so many to read. I’ve tried to limit myself to only one book per month. That way, I still get my Kate Daniels fix, while still staying on track to be ready for the release of the eighth book. To tell you the truth, I feel a little bit of dread every time I finish an installment because I know once I’m caught up I’ll have to start waiting much, much longer to read the next book. I’m not looking forward to that.

Anyway, I was warned that this series just gets better and better. I wholeheartedly agree. I go into each book thinking I can’t love Kate any more than I already do, but then I’m proven wrong.

There are badass characters, and then there is Kate Daniels. She is freaking fierce! Fierce with a heart of gold. She’s not just a fierce fighter; she’s fiercely protective over those she loves. View Spoiler ».

The fight scenes were probably my favorite of the series so far, especially when it came to Erra. These two women are scary as hell, but damn, were they ever entertaining. View Spoiler » I love how much shit they talked to each other. Then again, Kate always has something smartass to say.

The romance in books with shifters are usually something I only tolerate, because the whole alpha-mate thing tends to annoy me. I hate when the guy is all overbearing and always telling the woman to stay put. Barf. Yes, Curran is a stubborn, protective, jealous guy who needs to have control, but it totally works for me in this case. Why? Because Kate is 100% alpha too, and Curran knows it. All the risks she takes drives him crazy and he tries to keep her safe, but he also backs her up and respects who she is and what she does. Plus, she has no problem standing up to him. I just love a good power struggle laden with sexual tension. And their banter is beyond entertaining.

Of course, the secondary characters continue to be just as fantastic as ever. Even the dog! I am so invested in all of them. I’m glad I read Magic Mourns before reading this book so I knew what happened between Andrea and Raphael. By the way, the werehyenas are definitely my favorite. That really shouldn’t come as a surprise – haha.

The progression of the overall story arc is getting really good. It’s exciting, but scary to know what Kate will be going up against in the future. Very intense.

So hooray for another fabulous installment of the Kate Daniels series!

  1. OHMYGAWD!!! In addition to this one, I just read your other three Kate reviews (b/c I missed them, b/c sabbatical), and:

    1. YAS! (A belated) Welcome to Team Kate!
    2. I can’t believe your only allowing yourself one a month–I don’t have that kind of willpower, LOL.
    3. Now we have to get you to read ALL THE (other) THINGS. *snickers* When you finally get caught up with Kate, perhaps The Edge or Clean Sweep will help you pass the time waiting for the next installment 😉

Fabulous review. Kate #3 is solidly my favorite, but this one . . . yeah, that connection with Erra, and the serious badassery of Kate in dealing with the other shifters keeps this one a close #2.

  2. Seriously, I might have orgasmed a bit when Kate kicked down the door to the council meeting and started shit! Best ever!!!!

The fighting, I just don’t know how it could get any better.

And Curran is the perfect example of how the alpha male concept should be handled because he has Kate to counterbalance him.

I agree with you, finishing a book leaves me with a sense of dread because I then have to wait forever for the next book.

The series gets so rough with Kate ansd what she has to confront!!!!

You are going to hate me. I totally haven’t read the novellas for this series. I know! Did you just die a little? I don’t know why I do this to myself.

LOL – Same here. It was beyond badass. -sigh- What am I going to do with you? The novellas tie-in so well with the following books. There were a shit ton of references to Magic Mourns in this book!

THIS!!!! Exactly what I love about Kate and Curran as well. They butt heads more often than not, but they also fit together perfectly, and I loved the progression of their relationship through these first 4 books. I still need to get caught up on the books after this as well as Andrea and Raphael’s story, but that certainly won’t be a chore! So glad you love this series too:)

  4. I feel you, Christy! Keep taking it slow! I totally agree with you about the romance bit. I think the reason their romance works is because they are both equals in their relationship. There is no knight in shinning armour or a pretty princess. They both do the rescuing 😛

I am glad you’re enjoying the series! 🙂

    Lovely review!

  5. Agreed! This series does seem to just be getting better and better. This one was pretty fantastic. Even though, Magic Rises and Magic Strikes have been my favorites out of the series so far.

  6. I’m reading the comment section and everyone is saying such good things about this book/series and I feel like i’m missing out so much. I need to give it a go!
