Mercenary Kate Daniels knows all too well that magic in post-Shift Atlanta is a dangerous business. But nothing she’s faced could have prepared her for this…

Kate and the former Beast Lord Curran Lennart are finally making their relationship official. But there are some steep obstacles standing in the way of their walk to the altar…

Kate’s father, Roland, has kidnapped the demigod Saiman and is slowly bleeding him dry in his never-ending bid for power. A Witch Oracle has predicted that if Kate marries the man she loves, Atlanta will burn and she will lose him forever. And the only person Kate can ask for help is long dead.

The odds are impossible. The future is grim. But Kate Daniels has never been one to play by the rules…

“Birds were assholes.”

Amen, Kate. Amen.

What to say? We’re nine books into this series and it’s stronger than ever! I love all the books so far, but Magic Binds is definitely on the top tier of the Kate Daniels cake. So much transpires in this book!

Roland is pain in the ass, that’s for sure. He abducts Saiman and pushes all of Kate’s buttons, so you know things are going to get ugly. And the Witches … they never have any good news to share! No, their visions are always full of death and destruction. One thing is for certain, Kate is in a serious bind this time.

The authors do an outstanding job crafting this story and bringing it all together. It’s exciting and completely engrossing, as usual! I swear, I don’t think there has ever been a dull moment in any of the books, certainly not this one. I love the action and the tight storyline, but humor and great dialogue puts it on another level.

Kate continues to be the deadly, witty, intelligent all-around amazing heroine that she is. We get to see just how much power Kate is capable of, but she has difficulty controlling it. She and everyone around her is worried it’ll go too far. The struggle is real!

I adore Kate and Curran together! These two are by far one of my all-time favorite couples! I love how they trust each other and always have each others backs, especially the way they tease and banter. They are more than just romance interests, they are a solid team. I shouldn’t even be surprised anymore that they just get better with each installment.

Gah! The secondary characters are some of the best! Julie is going to give me a heart attack, but I love how much she is growing. Roman – hahaha! I loved him in previous books, especially Gunmetal Magic, but he about did me in this time. ♥ There are some wonderful surprises, as well!

Magic Binds delivers on all fronts and left me begging for more. I know that I in no way do this justice, but seriously, this is urban fantasy at its finest.

On a side note: I’m not big on novellas, but I love the ones for this series because they usually have information & characters that eventually incorporate into the main books. I suggest reading Magic Stars before Magic Binds. It isn’t necessary, but it does give more insight to what’s going on with Julie. And Derek. 🙂

  1. A couple that’s solid and trust each other?! Um yes!!! I said this in my review of When Stars Collide: It’s so hard to find a couple that trusts each other no matter what. And I want to see more of it in books. But 9 books?! Gah. Why do you do this to me? I’ll add this to my TBR just so I don’t forget about it and hopefully pick it up sometime in the future. Great review!

  2. She’s not wrong about birds 😉 I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS BOOK CHRISTY! I’m so glad you felt it was as strong as the rest of the series, I always get a touch nervous the higher we climb in number as it seems like a some point it will have to take a downward turn. That’s not always the case though, and Ilona Andrews is brilliant so I hope we get another 9 books!

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more! This book is just so good isn’t it? Kate and Curren are both so perfect and the rest of the characters are simply amazing. I couldn’t put this book down once I picked it up and when I got to the last page….I wanted to keep going. Great review, Christy!
