It’s a mini towfer! One book I liked, but one book was … meh.

He was my older brother's best friend.

He was never supposed to be mine.

I thought we would get it out of our system and move on.

One of us did.

One of us left.

Now he's back, looking at me like he wants to devour me. And all those feelings I'd turned into anger are brewing into something else, something that terrifies me.

He broke my heart last time.

This time he'll obliterate it.

I’ve been looking forward to going on the emotional roller coaster that I expected Kaleidoscope Hearts to be, so I had tissues and chocolate ready. Turns out I didn’t need either one. Now this was a good book with many touching moments, but it just wasn’t as emotional as I had anticipated.

I liked how this was told with Elle’s perspective in the present and Oliver’s in the past, then eventually converging. While this involved Elle moving on from her grief of losing her fiancé, it was also very sweet and funny. I really enjoyed Elle and Oliver’s second chance romance and the chemistry they had. Best of all, Oliver has a great sense of humor that Elle plays off really well.

My lips tip up, but I keep looking out the window. “I can’t imagine anybody would like your jokes.”

“Oh, but they do.”

“Oliver,” I say, turning to him with a long-suffering sigh. “I’m sorry to break it to you, but they’re just pretending.”

He scoffs, giving me a bewildered look. “Pretending? Okay, I get it. You just haven’t heard my latest.”

I groan.

Kaleidoscope Hearts is a quick, enjoyable read. Even though it didn’t crush my emotions, it did provide plenty of feels. I look forward to reading the next book.

With a famous NHL player for a step-brother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation many hockey stars come with. She’s smart enough to steer clear of those hot, well-built boys with unparalleled stamina. That is until she meets the legendary team captain—Alex Waters.

Violet isn’t interested in his pretty, beat-up face, or his rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s previous misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes more than just a hot body with a face to match.

In what can only be considered a complete lapse in judgment, Violet finds out just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. But what starts out as a one-night stand, quickly turns into something more. Post-night of orgasmic magic, Alex starts to call, and text, and e-mail and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts, making him difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to like.

The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.

Sooo … I should have liked Pucked more than I did, but it fell a bit flat for me. I enjoy the heroine’s humor at times, but it got tiring after a while. Believe me, I often say inappropriate and immature things joking around, so that isn’t the issue. She was just too much. It was also so annoying how immature she was whenever any little thing happened, and the hypocrisy gave me a headache. She overreacted and pulled the same stunt three times, just cutting the hero off and ignoring him when it wasn’t even warranted. Girl needed to buck the hell up.

I mean, there’s part of me that liked it, but it got old pretty fast. Not sure if I will continue with the series.

I didn’t think Kaleidoscope Hearts was overly emotional either… I actually didn’t like the ex at all and just wanted her to move on.
I get what you mean in Pucked too… She was funny at times, but it got too much. The epilogue… well, lets just say I’m glad it was the end of the book. I still loved it though, I’m crazy like that!
But Pucked Up… Buck is great. That book is JUST his perspective, loved it more, but again, the girl did my head in a little.

  2. The fact that Kaleidoscope Hearts didn’t rip you to emotional shreds is actually a mark in its favor for me, I’m just not up for the brutal kind of feels right now! As much as I love chocolate, I’m trying to stay away from the books that will require the eating of it just to get through them. Must give this one a try now!

And too bad on the heroine in Pucked! Nothing worse than an immature leading lady. Those drive me crazy!

  3. I just read another great review for a book in the Kaleidoscope Hearts series. The characters and the romance especially sound great. I need to get to these books. Like Jenny, not too emotional is exactly what I need!

OMG I read Pucked and freaking hated it!! Immature doesn’t even begin to describe the girl. I thought the book tried TOO hard to be funny and all the jokes ended up falling flat. And the “beaver”. -_-
It’s a shame though because Helena Hunting is talented! Her other series is good! You should check it out if you haven’t already!

Yeah, that’s a good way of putting it … it did try too hard and it just cam across as annoying. That’s good to hear about the other series, because I was reluctant to after this one.

  4. The second book, Paper Hearts, is actually the one with the feels especially coming from Jensen. You just want to hug the guy! Just remember to read Torn Hearts first, which is the prequel to Paper Hearts. It’s on Wattpad 🙂
I didn’t really want to read Pucked in the first place so I guess I now have reason to not read it. I’m sorry this one fell flat for you :/

It wasn’t really the filthy mouth (mine can be pretty bad), it just … I think Nick said it better up there about it was trying to hard. That got annoying.
