They hear the most silent of footsteps.
They are faster than anything you’ve ever seen.
And They won’t stop chasing you…until you are dead.

Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

What modern convenience would you miss most in the post-apocalyptic world?

Everything! I am not a “roughing it” type of girl. I think indoor plumbing is a must and I have never had to hunt/scavenge for food. I have come to terms with the fact that I would probably not survive an actual apocalypse. 🙂

An extremely dangerous group is invading your home, you only have time to pack 4 items + 2 books to travel with. What items and books do you take?

The four items would have to all be practical 1) Food 2) Water 3) Large, sharp, scary knife 4) First aid kit

The books would be more sentimental, something that reminded me of the past. I’d have to pick 1) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis 2) Batman comics..do I get more comics than books…they’re lighter!

After years of scavenging after the apocalypse you find a thriving society and can pick anything you want for your first real meal. What do you have?

After years of eating canned food, roasted squirrels, and scavenged greens, I would probably love a pizza. A nice big deep dish Chicago style pizza…with extra bacon.

What would you rather face in an apocalypse: zombies, violent humans, or the creatures in In the After?

As I already mentioned, I probably wouldn’t survive long in an apocalypse…but I think I’d have the best chance against good old fashioned, slow moving zombies. Humans would be too smart and the creatures IN THE AFTER would be too fast. As long as I had a weapon, I could probably hold my own against zombies.

Would you rather be in a big city or in the country during the apocalypse?

I live in the city, but that’s the worst place to be during an apocalypse of any kind. There are too many people and not enough resources. It would be much better to be in the country, especially if you live close to a water source. In the country you can wait out the first bit of chaos and the aftermath of violence. You would also be able to avoid people a lot easier and probably already have a stockpile of food.

If you had to be stuck with one celebrity in the post-apocalypse world, who would you want it to be?

Can I pick that guy from survivor man? If he doesn’t count I think it would have to be someone who would be better bait for the zombies than me…maybe one of the Kardashians…they don’t look like they can run very fast. 🙂

What are some apocalypse/post-apocalypse books you recommend? Besides yours, of course.

Here are some post-apocalyptic/dystopian books that I really love!

1. The Giver by Lois Lowry
2. Divergent by Veronica Roth
3. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margret Atwood
4. Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O’Brien
5. The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Okay, and finally…what’s coming up next for you?

I’m currently editing the second book in the IN THE AFTER series, IN THE END. It will be out summer 2014.

Thank you!

A Chicago native, she holds a BA in Human Ecology and has spent countless hours studying the many ways in which people are capable of bringing about their own destruction. I think I would rather face slow moving zombies, as well, for all the very good reasons listed above. But I wouldn’t last long!

  2. Carl

I agree the countryside would be a much better place to survive. Less competition, more space to hide in. Thanks.

  3. I would definitely want to be in the country when the zombie apocalypse started. Like Demetria said the city has way too many people and that makes it really hard to get away. The only issue I can think of right now with the country is the distance between you and supplies.

  4. I never understood people who think cities are safer when push comes to shove. It seems to me that there’s really no safety in masses, contrary to the popular opinion. And Kardashians would totally make a nice bait, that is a brilliant idea.
I’m just now listening to In the After and really enjoying it. I think it lucked out with the narrator, she’s pretty amazing.
Thanks for sharing the post, Christy! I really enjoyed it.

  5. I am not a roughing it type of girl either! I would miss electricity and everything it powers. A hot celebrity forced to re-populate the earth with me would not be bad though LOL I actually am behind on a lot of dystopian reviews so perhaps this could be good motivation to post some this week and link up. Great interview! I really enjoyed this book! It is one I still need to review.

Great interview….my celebrity would be Norman Reedus. Yeah, i know its just a show, but hey, that cant all just be acting . Theres a bad ass in there…and hes nice to look at!!!
    Thanks for the giveaway!!!

  7. Rhonda P.

I would rather be in the country since I grew up in the country. Entering under FB name (Danny Taylor Rhonda)

  8. Marie

I think I’d want buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing and macaroni and cheese for my first meal. Maybe a cheeseburger too 🙂

  9. HollyB

First of all, I must establish this fact: I am SO going down early if the Apocalypse is upon us! (So you might want to be next to me in hopes that whatever horror is at hand focuses on me and you can run away!!) Second, I completely agree with Demetria on all the questions (well, except for what meal id want if I found a thriving community). I’d absolutely want to be in the country in the event of apocalypse, NOT the city! And I’d also choose zombies over violent humans or They/Them from In the After!

Thanks for the great interview – I laughed out loud at her choosing one of the Kardashians to have with her cause they look slow….hehe

question-After years of scavenging after the apocalypse you find a thriving society and can pick anything you want for your first real meal. What do you have?
answer- i would have a seafood feast!!!

  11. You know I had to like this book or get beat up, right? I thought it was terrifically scary and THEY were awesome. I would definitely pick Beaf Grylls as my celebrity even though Brad Pitt is a close second. Great Apocalyptic post!

  12. *An extremely dangerous group is invading your home, you only have time to pack 4 items + 2 books to travel with. What items and books do you take?*

I would want to take all four items Demitria Lunetta mentioned too. But instead of just one sharp weapon, I would want plenty. So 1) water 2) dried fruits and meats 3) first aid kit & 4) weapons (pepper spray as a last resort, tazor and batteries, at least three knives & two guns).
The two books from favorite authors I would want to take with me are the whole series of vampire academy and either the hunger games or divergent series only so I wouldn’t feel so helpless. Either one would boost up my confidence when needed 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway and fun questions! ^_^

  13. Barrie

If I had to choose one celebrity to be with during an apocolypse, I would choose Vin Diesel…he’s strong, sexy and HOT! He’d save me and we’d have beautiful children together…LOL!

  14. BookLady

I would rather be in the country than in a city during the apocalypse. The chances of survival are better.

  15. Wayne Chambers

I would want to be with Miley Cyrus. That way she hypnotize anyone we run into by her godly twerking skills!

  16. If you had to be stuck with one celebrity in the post-apocalypse world, who would you want it to be?

My answer would be J.K. Rowling or Tom Felton from the Harry Potter movies, either him Matt Lewis, Bonnie Wright or any one else from the cast.

  17. Bonnie Hilligoss

I would miss electricity to power computers (probably no reason to have them in the new world!) and ereaders. Reading the same 2 books over and over isn’t going to cut it. Thank you for joining the hop!

  18. leannessf

For the first meal question – I love roasted garlic crab, so I would definitely want that! To keep with the Asian theme, I would also want Thai beef salad, sweet basil chicken, and fried banana with coconut ice cream for dessert! Yum! 🙂

  19. Pearl K

I’d probably be in the countryside if an apocalypse happens. Chances of me getting crush by building structures or trampled by people are less 🙂

  20. Christina T

I would pick Shrimp scampi in a garlic wine sauce over a vegetable rice pilaf, as the first real meal!

  21. Lisa Vazquezanzua

What modern convenience would you miss most in the post-apocalyptic world? I would totally miss fast food!! I love In-n-Out! I would probably hit that place first to finish off any of there food! lol Awesome sounding book!! I’m can’t wait to read this one!!! Thank you for another awesome giveaway!!!

  22. Ariel

In reply to “What are some apocalypse/post-apocalypse books you recommend?” I would recommend Divergent as well along with the Blood of Eden series, Shatter Me, Delirium, Under the Never Sky, and many others!

  23. If you had to be stuck with one celebrity in the post-apocalypse world, who would you want it to be?
I would want to be stuck with James MAstars who is Spike from Buffy the Vampire slayer because he’s hot and who would want a vampire protector <3
