Twenty-five-year-old Ryke Meadows knows he’s hard to love. With a billion-dollar inheritance, a track-star resume, and an alpha-male personality—he redefines the term likable asshole. But he’s not living to make friends. Or enemies. He just wants to free climb three of the toughest mountains in Yosemite without drama or interruption.
And then he receives a distressed call from a girl in Paris—a girl that he has never been allowed to have.
Daisy Calloway is eighteen. Finally. With her newfound independence, she can say goodbye to her overbearing mother and continue her modeling career. Next stop, Paris. Fashion Week begins with a bang, and Daisy uncovers the ugly reality of the industry. She wants to prove to her family that she can live on her own, but when everything spirals out of control, she turns to Ryke to keep her secrets.
As Daisy struggles to make sense of this new world and her freedom, she pushes the limits and fearlessly rides the edge. Ryke knows there’s deep hurt beneath every impulsive action. He must keep up with Daisy, and if he lets her go, her favorite motto—“live as if you’ll die today”—may just come true.
I need more Raisy!! I can’t even tell you how excited I was for Hothouse Flower. I am so addicted to the Addicted series, and love the Calloway Sisters series even more! This book is close to 500 pages, yet it still wasn’t enough for me. More, more, gimmie more!
I love Daisy and Ryke so much. Daisy is a wild, free-spirited adrenaline junkie, with a heart of gold. She’s been under her mother’s thumb all her life, thrust into the modeling world at a young age. She would love nothing more than to quit and be free to do what she wants. Since her sister’s sex addiction has made headlines, she’s been put through a lot. The only one who knows what’s she’s been suffering through is Ryke.
“As I watched each friend call me a sex-addict-in-training and a media whore, stabbing me routinely in the heart, Ryke was the one who pulled out the blades. He even shielded me from them. He’s like my wolf—dangerous, alluring and protective—but I can never get close enough or else he’ll bite me.”
Oh yes, Mr. Ryke Meadows. I love this guy! Besides being a rock climber and runner, he’s an asshole. Okay, I mean that in a good way. He doesn’t care what people think, so he doesn’t worry about pleasing everyone. But no matter how much he glares or says “fuck”, he is super protective and such caretaker. There is so much to Ryke than he lets people see, and I love it all.
Each couple from the series has their own trope. Like Lily and Lo are the friends-to-lovers, Rose and Connor are the love-hate romance, while Daisy and Ryke are the forbidden romance. And the dynamic between Daisy and Ryke is perfection! They’re always pushing and teasing each other, never crossing a line. I love how Daisy never backs down from him, and can hold her own when she instigates the flirting.
She likes to tease, to see how far she can push me, and I’ve never had a girl play with me like that, with confidence that radiates. It drives me fucking nuts, and I find myself wanting to be around her even more, seeking those give-and-take moments and her fucking joy. – Ryke
We tempt and tease each other with knowledge that nothing more can happen. It’s our dynamic. – Daisy
Even though this is technically Raisy’s book, everyone else is very much part of it. That’s one of the things I love so much about these series, the books aren’t restricted to each specific couple. The relationships between family and friends is just as big. All six of them: Lo, Lily, Connor, Rose, Daisy, and Ryke are instrumental in all the books. The different dynamics between all of the characters is seriously one of my favorite things. And I still very much love my bitchy Rose.
“Do you need a hug?” Rose asks me. “Because if you do, Lily can give you one.”
Lily looks at Rose like really?
“You give better hugs than I do. I know my weaknesses.”
It seemed like we got to see more interactions between the guys in this book too, which was quite entertaining. I love the dynamic between the three of them.
I nod to Connor. “Hey princess, you want to compete at chin-ups?” Lo fucking hates doing them, so he can watch and count.
“I don’t know,” Connor says with a casual tone. “Will you cry when I beat you? If so, then yes.”
There is a lot that transpires in Hothouse Flower. A lot. There’s also a lot of growth with all of the characters, and it makes me so happy to see how they’re changing and moving through life. And I was beyond happy that Daisy and Ryke made Raisy official!
Hothouse Flower was indeed another wonderful installment in the Calloway Sisters and the Addicted series. I can’t wait for the next book!
