Twenty-eight-year-old Maggie Sparkes arrives in New York City to pack up what’s left of her best friend’s belongings after a suicide that has left everyone stunned. The police have deemed the evidence conclusive: Celine got into bed, downed a bottle of Xanax and a handle of vodka, and never woke up. But when Maggie discovers secrets in the childhood lock box hidden in Celine’s apartment, she begins asking questions. Questions about the man Celine fell in love with. The man she never told anyone about, not even Maggie. The man who Celine herself claimed would be her ruin.

On the hunt for answers that will force the police to reopen the case, Maggie uncovers more than she bargained for about Celine’s private life—and inadvertently puts herself on the radar of a killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes undiscovered.

Dude. He Will Be My Ruin was good! Like, really freaking good. I swear, every book of Tucker’s seems to get better and better.

I love her Burying Water series and expected He Will Be My Ruin to be similar to those books, but this has a different feel to it. It’s a mystery-suspense that will keep you on your toes. I knew the whodunit, but still spent the entire book suspecting the involvement of others and motivations. It gets pretty exciting with twists that held me completely captivated. The whole thing is superbly laid out.

All I know is, if anything ever happens to me, I sure the hell hope I have a friend like Maggie in my corner. She is determined to use any means necessary to discover what really happened, because she knows something isn’t right about Celine’s death. Maggie really is a fantastic character that I was more than happy to go on this crazy journey with. In fact, there’s a whole cast of characters surrounding her that I enjoyed and added even more to the story.

Seriously, I love the way He Will Be My Ruin turned out. All the way down to the very, very end. If Tucker keeps turning out books like this, I’ll be one happy reader.

  1. Man, I hate it when I don’t like a book that all my friends enjoyed. 🙁 I was really excited for this one and I was pretty sure I would love the heck out of it because it’s K.A Tucker, but it ended up disappointing me. I knew exactly how the book would end and I thought some of Maggie’s decisions and choices were very questionable. Regardless, I finished this one because her writing is so damn good! I’d be curious to see if there’s going to be a sequel to this one!
I’m really glad you liked this, Christy! 🙂

  2. I definitely need to read this Christy! I’m in the mood for a good suspense, and I actually like knowing the who in situations like this because it makes me question everything else. If I don’t know who, that’s what I focus on the whole time. Thanks for the recommendation!!!

  3. I love that you still liked this and were still guessing at some things even though you had most of it figured out and that you would still described it as wonderfully laid out. You always figure these out so I’m not surprised but if you still say it’s good then I know I will love it. 😉

    Feel better soon!!

  4. I’m kind of regretting not getting this book (I was a little leery of the mystery/suspense) because of all the stellar reviews. The very, VERY end, huh??? Hmmmm… Another book, maybe?? You have my interest piqued 😀

  5. I had no idea she even wrote suspense. I assumed most of her reads were just the run of the mill new adult but I’m really excited to give this one a go now. I’ve never seen if before, wonder why it’s not getting as much love as all her other reads, it sounds incredible! Fabulous review Christy as always <3 really enjoyed it.
