When Beatrice Jordan meets the unpredictable Jacob Grace, the two wild souls become instant allies. Together they discover an escape in each other's creativity and insecurities, while running from secrets they cannot seem to shake – or a fate that could throw them to the ground . . .

This 15th Anniversary reissue of Tiffanie DeBartolo's classic love story introduces a new audience of dreamers to a quintessentially real and raw vision of spirit, and inspires everyone to live — and love — as vividly as possible.

This book …

My heart …

I saw Tarryn Fisher recommend God-Shaped Hole on Twitter, and there was this inexplicable something that told me I needed to read it. Tarryn and that feeling did not lead me astray, because lordy was it good! I knew for sure it was going to be something special when I read the Forward and DeBartolo discusses how Jeff Buckley and his music inspired her to write this book. I also knew right then that I was in for a world of hurt. I couldn’t wait!

I became completely consumed with 27-year-old Beatrice and 29-year-old Jacob. They’re both such compelling characters who I can’t get enough of. Their love, their lives, their journey is absolutely beautiful and moving. I’m seriously kind of obsessed with their relationship. I love how they could be serious and have deep, meaningful discussions, but also be playful and witty. They aren’t perfect, but they are certainly perfect for each other.

I can’t even tell you how badly I needed this! It made me feel in a major way with so many glorious emotions. My heart soared, but it also shattered. There were definitely tears involved. Prepare yourself.

I couldn’t quit reading and stayed up until 2a.m. to finish. I couldn’t sleep afterwards, though, because I just laid there thinking and absorbing it all. It continued to occupy my thoughts the next day, and I suspect it’s something that will stay with me for a very long time.

God-Shaped Hole was originally published in 2002, but was reissued for its 15th anniversary. I’m incredibly grateful it was, because I probably would have never known about it otherwise. Believe me, it stands the test of time. It’s a favorite for me, for sure! ♥

It’s a love story that is gorgeous, but also painful. Read the little blurb on the cover & the forward, and you’ll have an idea. Damn, I want to read it again right now.

  1. Honestly, I’ve been eyeing this book for years. It’s been recommended for me many times. But it terrifies me. REALLY TERRIFIES ME. I heard that it’s a tearjerker. A friend even said that it’s traumatized her. Hehe. 😁

Your review makes me SO curious though, but I don’t know if I can survive after reading it. 🙈

    Awesome review! 👍🏻❤️

Oh, Geybie, you have to read it. After reading the forward and the prelude, I knew what to expect and braced myself, but it still hit me hard. So, sooo good!

  2. Nice, I like a book that really makes you feel, and you can’t stop thinking about afterward. Those are the best. Sounds like an interesting, offbeat premise too…

  3. I find that when you get there kind of strong feeling about a book, it’s best to just go for it! I’m glad it turned out to be a good decision for you. These sound like the kind of characters I would love and the kind of relationship I would love to have, at least in terms of how they could be serious at times but playful at others ( but maybe not so much the parts where things happened to make you cry LOL). Glad you loved it!
