When Caroline Piasecki's ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn't look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear; hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defence and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he's shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger - even after promising her dad she'll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works.

They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they're 'just friends,' their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The more complicated her relationship with West gets, the harder Caroline has to struggle to discover what she wants for herself - and the easier it becomes to find the courage she needs to fight back against the people who would judge her.

When all seems lost, sometimes the only place to go is deeper.

Wow, wow, wow … this book was exactly what I needed. I love that I continue to find gems like this in the sea of NA. Deeper was such a wonderful book for so many reasons.

Caroline is a sophomore in college; she’s intelligent, driven, and a good girl. So when sexually explicit photos of her show up on the internet, it turns her world upside down. I can’t even express how much I loved the way this was dealt with, how it explored victim-blaming and slut-shamming.

This stuff goes on way too much online, and it pisses me off. So it made my heart soar (too corny?), to see what an incredibly strong, fierce young woman Caroline grew to be. Seriously, it gets me choked up just thinking about it. She is the type of heroine that needs to be in more YA and NA books.

We also get West’s POV, which was a delight. This guy comes from a rough upbringing, but he’s hard working and has ambition. He’s not perfect, but that’s part of why I love him too. And he sealed the deal with me when he came to a certain understanding about their relationship View Spoiler ».

Not only were Caroline and West great, the secondary characters were, as well. It was so nice to see the friendships grow, and how they supported Caroline.

Another thing that impressed me in this book, is the wonderful slow-build romance. It was beautiful watching them grow closer, explore each other, and just take time. Even though they didn’t immediately “do the deed”, it was pretty damn hot. Not everything is smooth sailing for them, though.

There’s a lot of depth to Deeper that I truly appreciate. It gets ugly, but it has a very important message.

Seriously, the author did a superb job with Deeper, it’s one NA book you do not want to miss! So worth the $4.

  1. I’m so happy you enjoyed Deeper Chisty! Wasn’t it amazing? I agree that Caroline is the hype of herione that needs to be in more YA and NA novels. She had an enviable strength about her! I still haven’t read the sequel (though I’ve been dying to get my hands on it) but I hear it’s great too! Lovely review 🙂

  2. Man… This series keeps getting so much love. I love Yorks’s work as RuthIs Knox, so I should give it a try. So glad you enjoyed, Christy!

  3. Me thinks you’re coming over to the dark side… mwahahahaha!!!! You just need to find the NA niche you like!! I can totally tell the stuff you like and Deary, you will always be dark around the edges 😀

This sounds great but I’m not sure I’ll like how it ends (oops, I read the blurb for the second book). I added it to my TBR anyways so if I see it go super cheap, I’ll grab it. Fantastic review!!!

  4. Everyone seems to have read this but me, haha. I think I’d probably get pissed off a lot with this, but glad it made her stronger though, and definitely, we need more characters like that. 🙂
