From the moment she saw Shawn Scarlett perform at a school talent show, Kit Larson has loved two things: the guitar, and the gorgeous, green-eyed boy who inspired her to play. But one careless night in high school shatters her hope of ever being more than a notch on his bedpost.

Six years, two bands, and one mostly-mended heart later, Kit’s about to make her rock star dreams a reality as the new guitarist for Shawn’s band, The Last Ones to Know. He may not remember their reckless night together, but Kit has never forgotten… and she’s determined to make him eat his heart out.

The release of their new album means a month cooped up on a tour bus, sleeping inches away from the ridiculously sexy musician she’s never quite gotten over. And as Kit gets to know the real Shawn—not Shawn Scarlett, the rock god, the player—their attraction becomes too hot to resist. But the past is paved with secrets, and when they finally surface, Kit could lose everything: the band, the music, her dreams… and Shawn.

First there was Adam. Then there was Joel. And now we have Shawn! Chaos is the third book in the Mayhem series that revolves around the band The Last One to Know, and the one I was most looking forward to. I do have to say, Riot is my favorite because I connected a lot with Dee, but Chaos is definitely a close second.

I wanted Shawn’s story as soon as I met him in Mayhem, and then my excitement grew once Kit was introduced in the second book. I was dying to know what was going on between them! The way the author set the story up is cool, because the beginning is the same timeline as Riot. So what was happening with Joel and Dee is in the background, but now we get to witness what was developing between Shawn and Kit during that time too.

I really like Shawn and Kit. They attended the same high school, but didn’t run in the same groups. However, they did have an encounter that had a significant impact on Kit. Years later when she auditions for the band, she’s sure he doesn’t remember her. That was a fun aspect of the story, because we aren’t privy to whether he does or not. So it’s like they’re really getting to know each other for the first time. Slowly.

The two of them were a lot of fun, especially when they’d banter and prank each other. I also love how they worked on music together, and how much music truly means to Kit. I mean, who doesn’t love a girl who can rock a guitar? They just have great chemistry, period. There’s angst, but I actually liked it. There were plenty of feels to be had with these two, that’s for sure!

The interaction with the band is still a highlight for me, and I love how they’re progressing and moving up in each book. I like it even more now that Kit is in it – the only girl surrounded by guys. It made for some entertaining times, because Kit’s no pushover. She grew up with three older brothers and a twin brother, and they are a handful. So Kit can definitely hold her own.

Speaking of brothers … yeah, Kit’s family is seriously entertaining. They can be frustrating at times, but c’mon, they’re protective older brothers! I thought it was funny. Of course, it’s easy to laugh at others who have to deal with it when I don’t. I love how close they are, though. It’s really sweet.

Chaos is definitely another winning installment in the series. Next up is Mike! From the small setup in this book, his looks like it might get a little crazy. And I can’t wait!

  1. I love the sound of Kit’s brothers! They sound hilarious and frustrating at the same time. I don’t read books about rockstars or musicians, but you seriously make me want to read these books, Christy. Maybe I’ll make an exception with this series. 🙂 Kit and Shawn sound really great together.
    Great review, Christy!

  2. Oh I like the sound of this one Christy! Do you think I can read out of order since the timelines overlap and start with this one? Or no? I think I’m going to really like Kit:)

Only this book and the 2nd book overlap a little at the beginning because of the way Kit was introduced into the band during the 2nd book. But you could technically read this one first.

  3. Wow though I haven’t read this book series yet, It sounds really cool so I think I’ll probably have a new book boyfriend by the time I get my hands on this series and read it! xD By the way I’m nominating you for the Beautiful Blogger award, cause your blog is so creative and I love the design of your blog! Plus you got a new reader for your blog! 😀

  4. Two stories going on at the same time sounds so, so intriguing! And a girl who can rock a guitar is better! I used to rock the guitar… okay, maybe I’m exaggerating that a bit – I took a couple of lessons in high school because it was a requirement for our Music Class but hey, I totally rocked it too in my own way. Now where’s my Shawn?!

Christy, I LOVE this series! I most related to Rowan, but loved Dee, and think Kit is coolest rock girl ever! I agree, the bands interactions are a highlight for me as well. I loved Kit’s brothers. They made the story that much more entertaining. I’m looking forward to Mike’s story! I can already tell I’m going to be irritated by his ex-girlfriend. Lovely Review 🙂

  6. I haven’t started the Mayhem series yet but I always love when books In a series take place during the same time as other books in a series just with different characters. It always makes for an interesting story. Plus I love seeing scenes we’re already familiar with through the eyes of other characters. Lovely review Christy!
